If you have the drive space, I suggest you put Ubuntu 12.04 on it with a dual mount. That old processor will suddenly haul ass. The selection of application software is certainly limited, but it's less likely to crash, more secure, and has a few decent capture programs; runs just about everything Google puts out (Sketch-up, Earth, etc.), battery life-time is doubled on laptops and it doesn't live by spinning your hard-drive to death.
