Covid and good eating!

Damn, our members are getting bored around here.

Whelp, my friends: SINCE THERE IS NO FUCKING VOYEUR OR ADULT REALITY STUFF ON THE INTERNET anyway, I suggest we ignore all the porno sites and flood our site (probably Old Dude's) with some of the subjects we talk about here.

Sometimes it's about weather.

Sometimes it's about how Woof ran the show around here. Properly. Arbitrarily, as an enlightened ruler, but unencumbered by the undesirable chaos of Bureaucratic Rules.

Sometimes it's about shitty members causing feuds. Haven't see the Kiddie spam people in a long time. Just the usual trolls and spammers. Give 10 points for us CC mods there.

I would like to see Paris before I die. That's a hint to certain members. Not gonna push it now days.

Sometimes we talk about medical issues. Maybe some hints are helpful or comforting. Usually it's both, but also meaningless, as we are all headed inexorably to oblivion regardless.

Pizza is another issue. Let me explain:

I make my own bread from scratch. No salt added, doctor's orders.  I can make my own tomato paste, from scratch, no salt added. Meat and cheese must be added on top; this often contains salt, primarily on the cheese or anything processed like pepperoni or bacon that is added as a topping. All this is fairly easily accomplished even if one is on a low-salt diet, but regardless, making the perfect pizza crust is the  most important procedure in the entire process. It is an art, and very difficult.

It also ABSOLUTELY requires that red wine or real beer must be served. Not than non-drinkers need to drink it, but the experience is diminished. Not that a busty Italian woman should sit on your lap, but without it, your experience is severly dimished.

Unlike pizza, all other Italian dinners require garlic bread in addition to the above. Granted, I learned this from Italian immigrants to North America who had been here quite a while, and they have flourished, and generally enjoyed their large families during dinners. Though their dinners have changed because of the abundance of  ingredients in their recipes, it's important to them to share it with others.

I kinda miss that now during this Covid-19 year, even if the grandkids formerly made a mess at the table.

Good morning Foamy,When my kids and grandkids were kids,kids,I loved colouring-in with them(mainly because that's the extent of my artistic skill or lack of).

I'm now the proud owner of a Hyper complicated Disney colouring-in book and although gratefully received it's driving me f****** crazy.Gone are the big,open easy to fill in pictures of yesteryear.They gave my wife a massive Jigsaw which she loves but if I try to help it sometimes causes more problems than it solves!!! So it's usually back to the colouring-in.Seriously though we are lucky as we have back and front gardens to tend and with the current weather here in Scotland pretty good at the moment we are doing fine.Margaret(my wife) is a damn good cook and baker but at the moment Self Raising Flour is like gold dust,everybody has gone baking mad which is totally understandable so the Apple Crumbles,Victoria Sponges,Scones,Pancakes,etc,etc,are in short supply,maybe a good thing in view of the expanding waistline😀However the family won't let us do our own food shopping although we are perfectly capable of doing it ourselves and the amount of "goodies"they always add on,Sweets,Chocolate,cream cakes,etc,loving it!!! But it's not helping.😀

My wife hates it when I go shopping. According to her, I never bring home any 'good stuff'. Quite the contrary, I bring home 'good for you' stuff. She likes candy, chocolates, etc... None of that is good for you. 

Dave, is regular flour available to you? Items such as these are in short supply around here too. But, just add baking powder and salt to the regular flour and it becomes self-raising. I've also learned that the fresh fruit and vegetable aisle is the most stocked with goodies. I have plenty to pick from because the modern generations all want processed and prepackaged junk full of preservatives.

Also working on a small plot of vegetables in my own backyard (garden). But I have so much going on with the house interior that it's slow going. If I have it all ready by late fall, then I can plant it and have my first crop come up in the spring. Because we have such mild winters here, you can plant certain items here all year round. The trick will be securing non GMO seeds, so that the seeds contained in the fruits and veggies will be able to be used for the next planting.

Hi hope you are all well.We normally eat quite healthily,fruit,veg,etc but I think the family are feeling sorry for us during lockdown and are plying us with comfort food.They won't let us go to the supermarket and we don't want to upset them.We had one of our granddaughters  living with us for 6 years whilst she graduated from Uni.and in that time we converted her to healthy home cooked food and her outlook to fresh vegetables,fruit and good home cooking has made a lasting impression as she now lives with her boyfriend and is never off the phone picking her Gran's brains on recipes and cooking tips.One convert at least😀

This looks to be on the mark as far as ingredients.

Self-Rising Flour

The secret ingredients of self-rising flour are the baking powder and salt added during the milling process. It’s generally made from soft wheat with a protein content around 8 to 9 percent. You can make your own at home by mixing 1 cup pastry flour with 1 ½ teaspoon baking powder and ¼ teaspoon salt. Be careful not to substitute self-rising flour for other flours while baking! The added ingredients can throw off the rest of the measurements in your recipe.

Nothing in the veggie garden yet. Still in the planning stages. Lots of squirrels, racoons, rabbits and other assorted wildlife that love fresh produce for a midnight snack.

The entire garden would have to be secure with a fine wire enclosure.

Leave the squirrels out of it. They're not nocturnal. If I were you, I would suspect skunks. Or gators.

Out here in socialist land, we have just as much bread flour (which I use for bread -- surprise) as people did in Soviet Russia. Meaning, good luck. Shelves are almost always empty. This is not acceptable in America. Little squirrel is pissed.
