Matroska stream, whatever that is.  It plays on my linux machine using VLC just fine.

that doesn't matter... what matters  is THERE IS NO FILE EXTENSION.   you can't play it at all without one.\

do you know the extension for  whatever  this mastroska thing is?  i've never heard of it before

Drag & Drop the file into GOM Player or VLC. It will play.

how about

right click>open with>VLC?

or maybe rename it and give an extension?

You did well. I couldn't even find a forward slash (or is it back slash?)on my keyboard! Must be easier ways to do these things! Most frustrating when mab usually is very straightforward for technophobes to use!
