  10. Wow, mine about once a year and even then the bottles are rarely half. The "problem" is that when you really take the time to enjoy a single malt it takes a while to finish it, even if it's only 2 to 3 centilitres. Enjoying a malt starts with taking the right glass, a tulip shaped thin glass with a foot (contrary to the glasses mostly used, a thick broad glass which is the wrong choice). The right kind of glass is necessary to experience your malt to the fullest. Before drinking you need to take the time to swirl the malt and sniff it, while doing so you'll increase the temperature of the malt and it will release extra hidden odours. So part of enjoying a malt is "playing" with it. Then you either drink it or enjoy it like you where tasting wine, swirling it in your mouth, adding some air to maximise the experience. And you can do it over and over again until the glass is empty and when "lucky" you notice flavours and odours that are new making it a pleasurable and time consuming experience. Add a nice opera on the background (La traviata from Giuseppe Verdi example is a nice match to enjoy whisky tasting) and you'll have a pleasurable evening. Guess I must be getting really old
  11. They just managed to get the bathroom flooded with foam, seems they forgot that they turned on the jets in the bath

  13. Cool. Oh, if mental age counts I think I need to be in the retirement thread Unfortunately I don't speak Latin, I only know the Latin phrases I can use or have used before. There are quite a lot interesting phrases in Latin but the language itself is a bit obsolete though (unless you want to become a priest ). One of my favourite Latin quotes which is here at the right place: Dum vivimus, vivamus (while we live, let us enjoy life) :-) Regarding "adult beverages". If you like a good smooth inexpensive single malt to enjoy the 10yo Talisker is a good choice. It's rather cheap (about 30 EUR) but decent enough to drink regularly. However, if you don't drink much like I do I don't mind spending a bit more bucks on a bottle. Currently I have the Bowmore 23yo Port Cask, the Belgian Golden Carolus single malt (a rather inexpensive bottle), the 10yo Talisker (cheap) and a bottle of Bruichladdich 23yo Black Art. I used to have a whole collection but since I rarely really "drink" I decided to only have a couple of good bottles and even then I rarely empty them before I just replace them with other bottles.

  15. Just checked to see if there's activity and it seems that David has returned. And in the mean time Anna has returned and brought Alex with her, seems they are OK again. Also the cam above the tv doesn't work.
  16. Guess I'm in the wrong part of the forum, overlooked the +40 part, my apologies, only 37yo here. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa! to say it in Latin I'll be on my way out of here
  17. Compared to Heineken, Budweiser is a prime beer... But in general Bud isn't the best available. Me, myself am not a big beer drinker, hell I don't drink alcohol at all (well, except for a very occasional single malt (18yo Bowmore or even better the 23yo port cask matured Bowmore though that's an expensive bottle) paired with a Montecristo or a Romeo Y Julieta cigar but as a Belgian I did try a lot of beers at least once. And we do have some very fine beers in our country.
  18. This week a Belgian, family owned, brewery called "Palm Belgian Craft Brewers" was sold to the Dutch brewery "Bavaria". Palm Brewery was founded in 1686 in a small town near Brussels called Steenhuffel. Currently Palm Breweries has multiple breweries in Belgium and brews following beers: PALM (amber beer, the most famous amber beer in Belgium & the Netherlands) (and variations like PALM Royale, Dobbel PALM, PALM Hop Select & PALM N.A.) Bock Pils (Pilsner beer, very limited sales at this point, mostly local since it was virtually replaced with a new Pilsner beer) Estaminet (Pilsner beer, virtually the replacement of Bock Pils and virtually identical to Bock Pils but "invented" to reach a broader market since Bock Pils was only known locally) Rodenbach (and several variations: Rodenbach Vintage, Rodenbach Grand Cru, Rodenbach Rosso, Rodenbach Caractere): Brown sourish beer Brugge Tripel: Heavy blond beer Steenbrugge: Abbay styled beer available in blond, brown, amberish and also white Cornet: Heavy blond beer, virtually a DUVEL style beer (Duvel & Palm used to work together but several years ago both brewers had a falling after which PALM created a competitor to DUVEL) PALM Brewery also owns a 50% participation in the BOON Brewery. BOON is famous for it's "geuze" beers and its fruit beers (Cherry, raspberries, ...) With the sale of PALM a famous Belgian brewer will become a Dutch brewer. May PALM rest in peace :-( Yeah, I'm Belgian so I'm not happy to see a Belgian brewer become a Dutch one, certainly since Dutch brewers are famous in Belgium for brewing "pee" (Every Belgian virtually dislikes Dutch beers due to the bad flavours (or rather lack of flavour). So we refer to Heineken, Bavaria, Dommelsch, etc... as a glass of pee or a glass of dish water.
  19. Losing a pet sucks and I think losing a dog hurts more then losing any other pet. Hope your dog rests in peace, keep the good memories in mind and it will keep you smiling. I lost my dog (a female Jack Russel terrier) about a year ago when she suddenly died. I had her since she was a puppy when friends had a nest of puppies and wanted good homes for the little ones. I took the one from the nest which came right to me, during the years she proved to be a very smart but also very naughty and stubborn girl. One of the funniest times was when I came home after having dinner with friends who have a dog their self, the dog (a big "Bouvier des Flandres" (think it's called a Flanders Cattle dog in English)) was in my life since he was a puppy and I went on walks very frequently during the years, the dog even liked me more then his owners (which was sometimes funny when he wouldn't listen to the owners but rather listen to me instead). Since their owners are very good friends I came in contact a lot with the dog and every time I came home my own dog smelled me and seemed to be annoyed that I played with another dog. That one day, my friends dog stayed with me the whole time i was there, sitting besides me when eating, laying her head on my lap during the meal, she just didn't go away. So during the hours I played a lot with him having a blast. But then when I came home my dog must have smelled that the other dog did got a lot of attention, the moment I entered my apartment she sniffed, turned her back to me and walked to the living room where she went to a wall and sit and watched the wall for over an hour completely ignoring me. Even when trying to please her with cookies or so she didn't gave up, she stayed as stubborn as she was and kept watching the wall. After more then an hour she finally gave in and jumped in the sofa, accepted the cookies and became my best friend again. The sight of her staring at the wall and completely ignoring me (because in her eyes I had been unfaithful to her) always makes me smile. She was the most stubborn dog I ever met but she was also the nicest and she comforted me a lot when I lost my mother and 4 years later when I lost my dad. My parents and I were very very close and my little stubborn naughty dog got my through the worst days of my life. Unfortunately about a year ago after her yearly check with the doctor she suffered a heart attack (or maybe an allergic reaction to the injections which I find doubtful since she had them before) and less then an hour when I was home she suddenly died, I tried cpr and rushed her back to the vet but unfortunately she passed away on my way to the vet. Until this day I still haven't been able to get another dog, I still miss her to much though I would love to have another dog in house again, it just doesn't feel right, maybe I give it another year or so and hopefully i'll be ready then to have a new dog, one I'll certainly will search in a dog rescue instead of a pet store. A dog is really a man's best friend...
  20. Now a big debriefing in the other apartment
  21. And the fun is over. Lights out in the living room and Nelly & Anna in their own rooms. Anna's changing the sheets, to much of Alex left in the sheets? LOL
  22. Great, I just downloaded Rosetta Stone with a bunch a languages I guess I'm going to start with Russian then :)
  23. A couple of big hugs and Nelly & Anna are alone. About the language? Is it Russian or another language? Since I know Dutch, English, French and a bit of German, Italian, Spanish & Romanian I do know it's none of those. I'm guessing Russian but i'm not 100% sure.
  24. Still a lot of talking...
  25. And they're back ;)
