To be fair, what the previous generation sees as antisocial -- such as sitting on a computer or smart phone, even playing video games -- the current generation sees as a primary key to enabling social interactions. Take a 20 something's facebook away, for example, and they will quickly fade into irrelevance to their friends that do have facebook. They dont get invited or included in any of the events because they would need to have a letter written or a direct phone call made to alert them as to the plans tonight/this weekend, whereas the rest of the group just knows from the mass invite/group chats. What about the games? These days games are played online, with your friends! A computer isnt a lonely thing to "do" , and hasnt been that way for a while now.. I'm sure I look idle sitting in my office all day, but productivity isnt measured by looking busy, and so is it also with social engagement. Seth www.webseth.com

yes the premium area of webseth has a lot of nudity and sex action, but there are no special premium webcams -- on webseth the live webcams are free. the premium area is just the archives of these adult-action-things that have happened on the free webcams. We're a pretty normal couple all things considered, which means we probably have sex maybe 4 times a week on average and a lot of people miss it so they find value in seeing the archives. Life is mostly uneventful, punctuated with moments of excitement, and lifecasting reflects that.. Seth

Sorry I dont understand the intention of this one -- I admit that webseth is a bit confusing in that I have a free signup through the vbulletin forum that helps a user navigate around but also a premium signup through verotel and these two credentials are not interchangeable. Ideally I'd rather there be a free signup with a premium "upgrade" that enables premium permissions but that's a whole development project and requires api access with verotel that my standard account doesnt support. As for the archive 2000-2013, the free webseth gallery covers all those years pretty comprehensively depending on what youre looking for.. Seth

There's actually FIVE* cams in the house but only two live feeds, really I think one feed (that switches between the various cam sources as I do now with the two feeds) would probably be better because I would be able to do it in higher quality and create a better focus of content for viewers. One of the cams is my iphone that I can use in various locations like the kitchen, garden, and yes often the bathroom. I've considered and tested the model that RLC chose to put cameras in every room broadcasting 24/7 but I felt it was very inefficient (especially when I lived alone) to be wasting resources on empty rooms often with the lights off with 0 or 1 viewers on them most of the time. Sure you could catch a frame in a thumbnail but by the time you click on it I may be on the move to the next room and it just didnt really make sense. I suppose there should be a better way that is explained on the site, RLC shows a floor plan and that instantly makes you understand the scope of the cameras.. I can imagine a first time webseth visitor seeing the cams be positioned in the living room and office and not understanding the true reach of possible content.. hmm.. Seth

Funny, I dont know what it is, maybe its just being bathed in the IR light of the illuminator's soft red glow that's comforting.. but I do feel ehm, "unplugged" when I'm not on camera. But it has to be when I'm away on vacation doing normal things around the hotel or whatever that I'd normally be on cam for that feels so different. There's never been any "direct" feeling of being watched with my cameras -- they're just inanimate plastic blocks in the corner of the room. I imagine it being very different if I lived in a 3-wall doll house built on a stage in front of an auditorium of the same number of viewers leering in. Seth

As far as I know I was the only sincere 24/7 webcam site that wasnt set up around doing shows for tips for a long time until RLC came around -- as I said in the other thread I'm happy to have new company in this tiny niche! If anyone knows of others on the same level of sincerity I'd love to know about it. I think the last of them closed up their sites by 2006 or 7. As for the Jade's post, all I can say is you have to expect a voyeur/security camera 24/7 style cam experience is going to have lower quality image and angles than a site set up for shows and chatting, it's just the nature of the beast. Or it could be me! You'd never know... :) But seriously, think about how profitable the site could be... how many paying subscribers do you think the site has? My guess is somewhere around 1,000. Sure, we're a small community here on CC, but that's to be expected - most people who watch the site aren't going to be interested in talking about it. If they have 1,000 subscribers, that's $30,000 a month coming in. Figure they give $600 to Segpay through service fees, leaving $29,400. If each apartment cost them $1,600 a month, subtract another $11,200, leaving $18,200. And figure they probably pay $200 per month per apartment for internet access to the cameras, so subtract another $1,400, leaving $16,800. Service fees and bandwidth to maintain and operate the site probably range around $2,000 a month, leaving $14,800 a month in profit. Yeah, I'd run a site that made that kind of money! I can offer some insight here, I would argue that the RLC owners are NOT making big cash on this, at least not yet. You say 1000 subscribers but is that realistic? life casting is quite niche and most people dont even know it exists to try and seek it out, does RLC promote a lot? Their affiliate program isnt even online (yet) from what I see. Also, your estimate on processing fees is optimistic to be kind, segpay charges 14.5% (http://www.segpay.com/service-fees.asp) + transaction fees + 10% six month rolling reserve. This is mostly standard for any product that has nudity. The card associations are not flexible when it comes to assigning MCC codes which then define the risk and subsequent retail merchant pricing. So on 30k he actually clears Closer to 25k not taking into account the reserve, he's got 7 apartments full of people to split the take with and we dont know how that is negotiated. You assume he's just maintaining the costs of the apartments but really fair would be to split it 8 ways which comes out to about 3k per month per apartment and for the webmaster, people expect to get a piece of the pie, not just free rent. That's still a lot, and would justify the full time job of maintaining the site -- but would it justify the up front costs of setting it up in the first place?? Anyway, the biggest assumption you made was 1000 members, and I dont mind saying that my website has MUCH LESS than 1000 members and my members area has 14 years of actual content. From what I see RLC is just members cams, do they have an archive? All that said, yes please start more lifecasting sites! It's a niche that's pretty much completely died out since "web 2.0" came about and people started using the internet differently, now voyeurs are rare and cynical with the internet SATURATED with people broadcasting every minuscule detail about their lives to anyone that will pay attention to them -- think of twitter, facebook, instagram, but also chaturbate, cam4, etc. There's very little attention left for sincere life casting these days which is really too bad. It's quite frustrating from my perspective as I cant really get involved without looking like I'm pressuring (from Dion) or creepy (from the other girl).
