The bird with the Crystal Plumage  Italy

Sumary : An American writer who came to Italy to find inspiration, Sam Dalmas finds himself one night witnessing an attack. In an art gallery he sees two silhouettes struggling and then, approaching while the attacker has fled, he finds himself trapped in the window and powerless to help the injured victim. A privileged spectator of the scene, he becomes an important witness for the police while a serial killer rages in the city. Little by little, Sam finds himself more and more obsessed with the affair and he conducts his own investigation with the conviction that he has seen that evening a capital detail that he can not remember.

Résumé : Ecrivain américain venu en Italie pour retrouver l’inspiration, Sam Dalmas se retrouve un soir témoin d’une agression. Dans une galerie d’art il aperçoit deux silhouettes luttant puis, se rapprochant alors que l’agresseur a fui, il se trouve prisonnier de la vitrine et impuissant à aider la victime blessée. Spectateur privilégié de la scène, il devient un témoin important pour la police alors qu’un tueur en série sévit dans la ville. Petit à petit, Sam se trouve de plus en plus obsédé par l’affaire et il mène sa propre enquête avec la conviction d’avoir vu ce soir-là un détail capital dont il ne parvient pas à se souvenir.

First feature film by the master of Giallio, Dario Argento

 Even if Argento is not the inventor of the giallo, it was Mario Bava who laid the foundations of the gender a few years earlier, with "The Girl Who Knew" and especially "Blod and black lace", these two remarkable works had no immediate successor. With " The Bird with the Crystal Plumage" Argento will define all the codes of the genre and the success he will encounter will result in a considerable wave of productions of the same type. From the opening credits of "The bird with the plumage of crystal", Argento declines the typical elements that dozens of filmmakers will resume after him.

Même si Argento n’est pas l’inventeur du giallo, c'est Mario Bava qui a jeté les bases du genre quelques années plus tôt, avec "La Fille qui en savait trop" et surtout "Six femmes pour l’assassin", ces deux œuvres remarquables n’avaient pas eu de successeur immédiat. Avec "L' Oiseau au Plumage de Crystal" Argento va définir tous les codes du genre et le succès qu'il va rencontrer va entraîner une vague considérable de productions du même type. Dès le générique d'ouverture de "L’Oiseau au plumage de cristal", Argento décline les éléments typiques que des dizaines de cinéastes reprendront après lui.

Anecdode

During the 60s, Argento made his weapons as a journalistic critic before being spotted by the film industry for his writing skills as a screenwriter.. During the second half of the decade, he became a prolific screenwriter, culminating in his collaboration with The Writing of  "Once upon a Time in the West".

Durant les années 60, Argento a fait ses armes en temps que critique journalistique avant d’être repéré par l’industrie cinématographique pour ses qualités d’écriture comme scénariste. Pendant la deuxième partie de la décennie, il va ainsi se transformer en un scénariste prolifique, avec en point d’orgue sa collaboration à l’écriture d’ "Il était une fois dans l’Ouest".
