His mom died when he was young. Assuming that is true, In general I thought Buki was a nice guy, and losing your mom and being raised by your dad could have a major affect on someone. I always felt his affection for Sav might in part be from a hole in his life of no mom and his desire to have a woman in his life to love and be loved by. As rough and imperfect as he is, I have seen many worse people here. He was well liked by several of us for a while and treated Chilli like a queen and that shouldn't be forgotten.
