When it comes to names, I guess we got some of the names from roman texts, and the writers would have changed the names to something romans would recognize. Also, many of the names comes from jewish names, where Matthew and such makes sense. The christians were basically jews, only they started following Jesus, and evnentually they became their own religion. Alot because of people wanting to be boss, is my guess. Like Paulus/Paul for example.
