    At 8:24 p.m., the Spanish Interior Ministry declared a national state of emergency due to the power outage. The state of emergency will apply in regions that request it, the ministry said, according to Reuters.

We quoted Reuters on this, which cited the Portuguese grid owner Ren as the source. At 8.15pm Reuters stated that they had withdrawn an article with Ren as the source. Apparently it is the article about the rare atmospheric phenomenon that has been withdrawn. Therefore, this information was removed from our article at 8.45pm.

    Rare atmospheric phenomenon contributed to massive power outages in Spain and Portugal Large parts of Spain and Portugal are without power. Wide temperature fluctuations are said to have contributed to the outage.
