He knows that treats are forthcoming and if he crosses that line, well, no treats. He was taught well. Cats are just idiots. 1

I once had two cats who were always well-fed, yet they seemed fascinated by whatever I was eating. They’d jump up on the prep counter and the table where I sat and ate, watching intently trying to grab extra. As soon as they hear the fridge door opened, they'd come running from wherever they were at meowing like crazy. 2
