It would account for why she has been absent for more than a day. Whatever it is - and policewoman has been mentioned before, with some 'authority', by a Russian-speaking member of this forum - it can only be part-time, as she's not away for very long on any consistent basis, is she? It's erratic, no pattern to it. If she was in the police surely she'd not wear her uniform before reporting for duty? she'd want to change from her civilian things into her police clothes at the station. Plus, police would have weapons and other equipment to carry. Parking meter maid or ticket inspector would make more sense, then again, the hours seem very limited and unpredictable.
