my first experience with rlc came as i was looking for porn and the rlc page popped up interfering with what i was looking for. it showed 1 room of a random apt and several pics at the bottom most of which said premium. the others usually had nothing happening, most of the time they had no people. i had no idea that i would ever see sex or nudity and therefore i had no interest in it and always x'd it out. then 1 day i saw some naked women whom i now know were nina and kira. that made me curious and i searched for the sight and also found voyeur villa and cam caps at the same time. being of a voyeuristic nature since i was very young i found it to be very interesting watching other people having sex and so forth. but without that bit of nudity i would have continued  to ignore it and not even know what it was called. bottom line is if they take away free cams they will not get many people to pay to join. there is free porn all over and no reason to pay for an unknown. a tease is needed to draw people in. the people that get it on in the free rooms are most responsible for any success of the sights as there would be little or no interest otherwise. people like leora, nelly, masha, desiree, anna, petra, etc carry these sites. without them i don't think they would do well. i'm sure that whatever they get paid is a pittence compared to the money that the operaters of the sites make.

My first experience was also from a pop-up that interrupted what I wanted to watch. I absolutely DESPISE pop-ups, and even more so those that seek to pass through blockers as it leaves me with me an impression that they used some sort of exploit and initially just closed them but then I thought, OK, you want to annoy me and waste my bandwidth? Let you have it, I'll keep it open, never subscribe and burn through yours. Since then I did become a little bit attached to the different girls so I watch some every day.
