Actually, since they moved in the new apartment no one has come to visit them. Not even Elli's girl friend or other friends.

What we do know is that RLC has proposed to Leora to return to RLC in Prague. How and why Paul (with little Eva) didn't come to Prague with Leora...probably they agreed that Leora would go to Prague first to see how she and him lived there, then there was an epidemic in the middle, Paul who was dating another girl, then the war, the bureaucratic problems to transport Eva etc etc... Even Malia was only supposed to stay a few months with Leora and then instead there was a year and half, so it's not impossible that there were some unexpected events.
