  1. Now with parliament suspended which a court case has shown Boris (or more possibly his adviser Cummings) was planning this before No 10. said it wasn't being planned - so someone was either lying or misinformed - Boris can ask people to figure some way out for him. It is traditional for The Speaker to be elected unopposed (well at least by the leading parties). However there was talk of the Conservatives putting a candidate up against him. He is (or was, I guess) a Conservative MP. With the threat of an immediate election looking unlikely unless Boris pulls another trick, John Bercow has decided to stand down. Doing that now means a Speaker will be elected by the current House of Commons rather than a post election one which means it is likely to be someone who is not going to let the government have its own way. One of The Speaker's main jobs is to let backbench MPs have their say which no government likes. He's also chosen the date of October 31st to stand down ... the date of Brexit. He does have an eye for theatre. The latest is that Boris will try to allow Northern Ireland to stay partly in instead of the whole UK. This will cause all kinds of border problems especially with the terrorists still active. It might work and if does then it is a harder deal than the opposition parties have voted against so effectively it will be a win for the hard right who will still claim it is not hard enough because they have become increasingly bolshie and seem to have a need to hate something. If you had offered it to them 5 years ago they would have thought it was Xmas. Of course the Unionists of Northern Ireland are furious ... but then I don't think any deal would ever satisfy them ... but Boris, considering he has destroyed his own majority so recklessly, is unlikely to care about them. BTW The government has not won a vote since June. Meanwhile the Liberals have said they will stay in the EU whatever now while the Labour Party which is trapped by the fact that their membership is strongly Remain, their voters less so and their leader who pretends to be Remain but nobody believes him since he was previously a life long Leaver (but then Boris was a Remainer and only switched because he saw it as a chance to seize power) has said they would negotiate a deal and hold a referendum in which they would mainly campaign against any deal they negotiated. It is not as mad as it seems, but then it seems very mad and is open to easy ridicule by the right wing press - that's not political, the press is factually mainly on the right. This is what happens when you have weak leadership.
  2. Here's something I forgot to report but it is something which indicates the dangers of archaic parliamentary practices. Stephen Kinnock (son of former Labour leader, Neil, and EU Commissioner, Glenys, and husband of the former Danish PM) put an amendment to the extension (anti-No Deal) bill I mentioned above which would ensure the thrice rejected May Deal (which personally I hoped would be backed even though I didn't like it) would be put forward again. His own party were whipped (instructed) to abstain and the Tory Party were given a free vote. Now there are supposed to be tellers for each side. In this case the opposition were in charge of counting the YES votes and the government were in charge of counting the NO votes. However the Tories did not send any tellers. Therefore nobody recorded the NO vote and so YES won. This was a shock and not what the opposition wanted. The Brexiteers who don't like the May Deal nevertheless thought this was very funny and might prove a stumbling block to the bill since the parties then have to effectively back the May bill if they want to back the delay which is at the very least embarrassing. I am not sure if this has ever happened before but suspicion was heavily on the fact that the government under Boris had done this deliberately and doing things that have never happened before is very typical of a man with no respect for anything. It could have been just massive incompetence but (and this is political but only slightly as a lot of his supporters would say the same) again that would be typical of Boris. BTW Remainers have been clearly ahead of Leavers for some while. This, for most people, is not about remaining in the EU but not leaving on terms dictated by people who represent less than a third of the UK population.
  3. No Amber Rudd, the former Home Secretary (No 4. in the UK hierarchy after the PM, Chancellor and Foreign Secretary) under Theresa May. She was a journalist and the aristocracy consultant on Downton Abbey!!!
  4. Belle💗 and Nate🙂 in matching outfits. I wish both of them the very best in their future lives.
  5. I promise this is the last time but since her departure is imminent: Belle Ciao Belle Ciao Belle Ciao Ciao Ciao
  6. ChangeaBelle💗 gets dressed in tracky bottoms. She had all her clothes already laid out on the back of the sofa so forward planning. I think the top says "PINK". Nate🙂 still asleep. He's up now. There's still a lot of tidying to do.
  7. Well with Boris in power - and this isn't political because whatever your position on the spectrum - it has gone crazy. Closing down parliament - at a crucial time - forced the opposition's hand. Because of the potential risk of No Deal they had to act very fast to try to stop that possibility and so far that is working. The law orders the PM to ask the EU for an extension of membership if no deal is signed. Boris says that this restricts his negotiating capacity but as he as of yet made no attempt to negotiate people cannot take the risk than he will do anything other than nothing so this is why they feel they need to strap him down. But this is Boris and that is significant because people believe he is capable of anything. Witness the sacking of 21 of his MPs including 2 former Chancellors (No 2. in the hierarchy of the UK) and Winston Churchill's grandson, the dramatic defection of another and even his own brother quitting. They have suggested he simply won't take the bill to The Queen to sign. It would be unprecedented (I think) but a possibility. They have suggested he will break the law, although that would seem to mean instant dismissal and an immediate election. His counter is to call an election. All the opposition parties what an election as soon as possible but while that makes sense for most of the parties, it would seem to be very dangerous for the main one while Brexit is still the only issue. Because of the Fixed Parliament Law I mentioned above, Boris cannot gain consent for an election, which is what he wants before October 31st since he has a personal stake on his leaving on that date since his entire Party Leadership campaign was based upon that. He might try to put in a new law ignoring the Fixed Parliament Law, which makes it seem stupid, but having sacked his colleagues he would need opposition members to abstain. If it not inconceivable he could win such a vote but not if the opposition wants to stay united. You may have heard Boris saying it is the first time the opposition have refused the chance of a General Election but then that option has only really been there in the last 9 years. The Opposition is in the majority and it would be better for them if they chose the exact time of the next election. Finally and this is indicative of the insane times, Britain is living in, Boris may call a no-confidence vote in his own government. If he wins then the Opposition have 14 days to form one under a new PM and nobody knows how that will work out. Failing that an election will be called but any new PM who comes out of that would have zero time to negotiate with the EU and we are stuck worse than before.
  8. ChangeaBelle💗 puts on different clothes for the 10th time today ... honestly, I have not been counting ... maybe packing does that to a girl.
  9. Bogdan works and I don'think Nelly would liked to be separated from him. They have visited Masha though and I did wonder if that group might get another apartment in Italy instead of all being at Masha's
  10. One glorious last look at Golden WonderBelle💗's Pretty Kitty and now she's dressed and singing. 💗😀💗
  11. Ha, FlexiBelle SexiBelle💗 has found a place on the bed among the packing.🙂
  12. Nate🙂 got his clothes out (I guess they are mainly shorts) hours ago and laid them on the bed but went no further. PackaBelle💗 filled one suitcase last night and is on her second. This may indicate a difference between men and women but TBF I usually pack a lot of clothes for a holiday. Michelle brought 50 pairs of panties but combined they probably took up less space than one of Nate's T-shirts. LOL
  13. Belle💗 back in B5. Hardly seen her today. I think she went out with Nate earlier but Nate🙂 was alone on the couch just now. It seems like no farewell party for Belle well apart from last night maybe.
  14. Not so much when Nate was ill for more than a month but in the last few weeks they've been OK in that department.
  15. If people have been on RLC a long time we see them evolve. While some things have remained the same for Belle💗, she has really evolved as a cook creating many different types of meal.
  16. That would be fair to say but I don't want him confused with Paul or Smith because while they both got there it wasn't in the end, it was at the start! Whereas with Nate he can pound her for quite some time and still finish.
  17. But as on her first 2 visits she has a lot of new clothes. The first time she had to buy an extra suitcase and still had to sit on it.
  18. She does get emotionally involved. I don't like to see anybody cry but that's a good cry.
