I think the Military in Russia is Mandatory unless you have some physical disability preventing you from enlisting. I don't know if the USA still has the draft system or not but I know in Canada enlisting in the Military is on a voluntary basis. You can always tell when Paul is going to be in the service when he gets a brush cut. The military in th U.S. has been all volunteer since 1973.
