I've been hacked!

Recommended Posts

Folks - CamCaps sysops,

I've been getting this identical email the past four days?  Wassup with that?!  Password has been changed and looks like CamCaps security remains asleep at the switch.

Please explain (see below):  Thanks.

Hi Howard,

We have detected 3 failed log in attempts to your account from Izmir, Izmir, 35250, Turkey.

If this wasn't you, someone else may be trying to access your account. These log in attempts were unsuccessful and we have blocked the IP address from further attempts so no action is required. You may however want to change your password for greater security, especially if you use the same password on other websites.

If this was you, you can safely ignore this email and you will be able to sign in again at 01/18/2019 09:48 PM.

Funny enough, this popped up today.

Stay safe people.

https://gizmodo.com/mother-of-all-breaches-exposes-773-million-emails-21-m-1831833456

TL;DR for the folks that don't want to click through. Essentially a "Packet" of data breached info went up on the dark web today that has over 773 million emails and 21 million passwords. The scary part is that it's not password hashes that would require a little bit more footwork (This explanation is extremely simplified) for anyone buying the data, it's fully readable passwords.

Whats even scarier? The person who posted it said that this was just a "Proof" packet to show that they had this info for sale, they have 3 more packets on the auction block that hasn't been revealed that are either just as large or larger than what was posted.

The list of sites that got breached were everything from Facebook, Myspace, Iheartradio, Brazzers, Xhamster, Beastiality sites, Dating sites, World of Warcraft fansites, Roblox, Conan Exiles, Steam, Microsoft, Apple, and the list just goes on and on. There wasn't a single "Genre" of site that got breached this was a wide sweep and I suspect they discovered a vulnerability that was quietly exploited for years.

Not saying that's what happened to Howard up there, but if you've ever signed into email or have an account on anything from Linkedin to Spotify. Time to change those passwords people.

We ae well aware of what has been going on. There's likely quite a few other Members that have or will get the same e-Mail.

There has been an Overabundance of Guests on the System at different intervals throughout the Day and Evening Hours over the last little while likely trying to Brute Force Passwords. After 3 Failed Attempts their IP Address gets Blocked. Some Outsiders just have nothing better to do with their time but to aggravate others.

Since they have not been successful at what they are trying to achieve, hopefully they'll move on and go somewhere else.

Cam Caps is Safe & Secured.
