I had a grandad who tried it with an old mule that they used to pull a wagon from time to time when he was in his early teens. According to him the mule had gotten to where it would cut loose on one near about every dozen steps it would take within a half days time after it had eaten and grandaddy said when he struck that ole long sticked match and pulled that mules tail up and held that lit match there until that mule cut loose on one, that mule reared up and took off and grandaddy said he had a time getting that mule to slow down and come to a stop. He said his uncle threatened to whip him for doing it because the mule had a good sized blister around it's anus. 2
