Out of curiosity I wondered how much they could be making :

RLC is a very "niche" website and the free cams never offered much. Internet standard for freemium is about 2% of paying vs 98% not paying. But in case of RLC I think they might be at least 10%. But let's lowball it to 2%. So, that's 160 000 subscriber each month (might be recurring, might be not recurring, doesn't matter). If we suppose ppl use the 90 days @18.31 / month, no replay, that's almost 3 000 000 € in revenue. 

Of that, let's remove 6K/villas (rent/mortgage/utility), 3K/apt in Spain/Rome and 2K/apt in the rest of the world. So, 13*2 + 6*3 + 2*6 = 56K/month. but to be on the safe side, round it up to 100K/month. 

53 participants, working on the 850€/month that they theorically earn for sitting on their ass, 45K. But to be safe, rounding it to 100K/month with the bonuses.

I'll throw in 100K/month of support staff, because why not ?

They host their own solution (that's cheaper), but let's use Google Cloud Live streaming prices for HD (yeah, I know) : 0.43€/streamed hour. So let's suppose on average a sub'd user watch 6 hours/day, that is 412 800€ of streaming. But you know me now, I'm generous, so let's make that 1 000 000€ in hosting costs. 

I would add the cost of running a company (lawyers, accountant, etc) but that's a drop in the ocean compared to those numbers. 

So where does it put us  in terms of costs : 1 000 000 hosting - 100 000 support staff - 100 000 tenants - 100 000 rents/mortgage = 1.3M
Even if I'm wrong with my estimations and that you double the costs to 2.6M, that would leave them with 400K/month of revenue (before taxes).

Sounds like a very profitable busines.

I haven't used a calculator  but, you can often derive a reasonable answer with these kind of estimates. Not always. The 8 million visitors I think is the snag. What qualifies as a visit? I visit multiple times a day. Does that register as 30 visitors? Or do they use my IP or what every IT nerds do and count me as one. That I thinks is a huge wild card. Another one is staff costs $100K, thats 2 people. We have 2 IT staff at my office for 50 people, They are slammed with work. So running 100 plus  streaming cams and other support staff, I would say is much higher.

Its been pointed out before, with the number of subscribers being huge, this is why complaints,  here and there, have very little influence. 

I have often wondered if we got a number of subscribers on CC to all watch the worst most boring cameras on RLC for 20 minutes and see if it influences the top camera displayed.

$100k/month for two people? So, 50k/month/people ? Do you hire ? Not my main field of work, but for that amount a month, I'm ready to relocate and master it in about a month 🙂  

$100k/month of staff in spain, that should give you a support team of 15 to 20 ppl depending on their skill level, or 10 superstars. 

And somehow, I doubt that they employ people in Spain for that, most likely in a more eastern country where wages are lower.

Also, running 10 cams or 100 cams is pretty much the same if you did your job right (hardware failure excepted). I worked for a company that used to make realtime interactive applications (even used once for a major us sport event) we could have 10k user to over a million. Except for the us event, we had one person supervising it, not even a technical one (so sub-level 1, with a level 1 on call). Everything was running on the cloud and scaling up and down automatically. 

Regarding your question, I'll give you the definition of their official metric : "A visit specifies the period of time between the moment a user opens his browser and closes it. Keep in mind that a visit can also be counted when a browser is left inactive for a specified amount of time before the user returns to the site." (they use Google Analytics)

That being said, I agree that my guestimate could be totally off, especially because I went to fast and mixed visit and visitors ! But I was quite large with the running costs.

But let's take it the other way around and keep those costs as if they were accurate. So even without streaming a single second, they have to pay 300K€/month. At 18.31€ the sub, that's a bit over 16K subs. Sounds doable for a service of 10+ years (I'm not counting hosting now, as they have factored it in the sub price (maybe they lose a bit, maybe they win a bit, let's call it even)).
