I am a strong liberal and not afraid to say it. No "patriots" could ever intimidate me! So, don't try! Helping fellow human beings and being part of humanity is what is important. If you are not willing to do that, you betray your species. I think being a homo sapien trumps (sorry for the pun) just being an American. After all, helping the world is what America is about, it is what we stand for! Having said all that, we as Americans have the role as leader of the free world to help other countries in need and defend them and ourselves. So we cannot shrink from our responsibilities as the leader and where it is required we get involved and sometimes that means military action or defense. So I am perhaps a bit of a hawk when it comes to America's role in the world. But we don't get to dictate to others however. Our ideas are not always just or humane. So we need to listen to others as well. Some wars were not justified. Like Vietnam or the 2003 war in Iraq. Iraq wasn't justified and was stupid! We have now created ISIS with that war (Zarqawi was the first head of the predecessor of ISIS and he was in Iraq and operating only because we invaded there) and we have made Iran powerful in the region! They now control Iraq. Saddam Hussein was a bulwark to Iran whether we liked him or not. And he was never going to attack us. But now that we have created ISIS, we have the obligation to the world to destroy them, whatever it takes! And we must do something about North Korea before they can minaturize a warhead to put on a nuke headed for our shores! What are we waiting for? And keep Russia in place, not allow it to threaten or invade its neighbors, using sanctions. And watch China and keep it from dominating Asia. And on and on! The world is a very dangerous place. We can not shrink into a cocoon and hope it does not notice us! And none of this requires us to imprison or evict ordinary american muslims! We don't have to make enemies, we have plenty already. And refugees from a war in Syria that we are somewhat responsible for because we didn't confront Assad and from Iraq because of our wrong invasion, who have suffered bombings after bombings and suffered so much, deserve our help, not our emnity. Otherwise we as Americans have no soul!

Maturin and Time, thank you. Maturin, I only wish I had the faith you have in human nature. I tend to believe that it is only a temporary retreat by the bigots. Rationality doesn't work on them. Here is my strategy pals. Should I say it? OK, try to convert the fence sitters with devastating rationality and logic! And with emotion! Appeal to their humanity. The bad people most will not be moved. We have to marginalize them!!!! I am happy I have my voice now here. Not just about sexy nude girls, fun as that is! I will be here with you, my friends!

Foamy, I agree with you. The terrorists do not respect weakness. They will kill us if we don't kill them first. Even Al Qaeda had a game plan. Get the US and western countries out of the gulf or middle east. ISIS is only interested in mayhem and death. They are cult that believes this is the end of days and that they are the ones to bring it about! There is no talking with people like that. We must exterminate them like rats (hopefully not like cockroaches as they have and will outlive humans). Totally and completely. But we mustn't lose our essence as a free democracy in doing so. We cannot lump all american moslems into a group for us to hate or kill. And refugees fleeing Syria and Iraq, we created the problem in the first place with GWB's insane war in Iraq. They are families, ordinary people. They are not terrorists. The terrorists that struck in Paris and Brussels were not refugees. We must settle the civil war in Syria and then eliminate ISIS. Then we need an Israeli/Palestinian peace agreement. And watch Iran like a hawk.

Maturin, I love your comments! We must be wary of our corporations. They will soon control our government and politicians (or do they already?). The TTP is horrible, giving away the store to our corporations and other countries. And we are heading back towards 2008 crash again if we do not at least restore Glass Steegle. Ironically, my President Bill Clinton did away with it during the roaring 90's! And get money out of politics! Or we won't have any democracy left if we haven't already lost it.

Ozi, that was excellent analysis! Do you want to work for the State Department? You would be good! People never know about the role gas and oil plays. It is very important when you talk about Russia and Europe!

There is nothing wrong with wanting diversity in your company. Just don't go against any particular group to do it. The goal of getting rid of discrimination is to eventually treat everyone without a racial filter. Of course, we first must get to where people truly have equal opportunities, for all races and peoples. We do not have that today.

People respond with fear too much. All american muslims are not terrorist. Most are good solid american citizens. Are we going back to the Japanese internment camps? What are people afraid of? Don't help the terrorists terrorize you! We will destroy ISIS where they are, don't worry. We have beaten back the Soviet Union with 25,000 nukes, we can beat this vicious ragtag army! We are already reducing their territory, reduce their finances, killing their top people! They want us to lose our democracy. That is what makes us great! Don't give in!

Time, I agree with you 100%. I find you to be one of most socially conscious people on this site. I am sorry we ever fought before. Your views are very much like mine. I don't know that we are in the majority but I sure hope so! Respect for all peoples! We are all homo sapiens, color, race, sex, religion all irrelevant. What matters is humanity towards your fellow human! We were born with big brains! Use them people! When you know you have no reason to resent a person but for some physical characteristic or because of their faith, then it it is just bigotry, is illogical and inhumane!
