Dogs

since most of the apartments speak different languages and a few have dogs and they seem to listen to their owners ( sometimes)

that raised a question to me, do you think dogs understand different languages?

Funny you should ask, I just saw a thread about this today on reddit: 

Answers: "yes, this is notable in social creatures, like whales. whales transported from different oceans essentially would have to learn different calls and sounds used for meanings that they already associate with"

Dogs probably learn to understand human the verbal commands, but I believe they do so by first observing the body language of their human masters. Most body language of humans is, well, pretty much universal.
