I think she is probably supposed to be on meds. As with many mental conditions the person goes on and off meds a lot and it usually takes a family member or intervention to get them back on meds. Schizophrenia is one of those conditions. Of course I don't know what is going on with her.

If she is anything other that quirky such as her mental health issue, she shouldn't be exploited here. Lubna was bulimic, another girl years ago was a drink alone, sneak a drink alcoholic and eventually she given her own apt where she continued in her illness. Sad

Anyhow, just one of several  possibilities IMO.
