I didn't even know he was in the military.

I think the Military in Russia is Mandatory unless you have some physical disability preventing you from enlisting.

I don't know if the USA still has the draft system or not but I know in Canada enlisting in the Military is on a voluntary basis.

You can always tell when Paul is going to be in the service when he gets a brush cut.

The military in th U.S. has been all volunteer since 1973. I think there are some openings available if you're interested.  :)

Talking about Pepe... He seems to have disappeared from cc.

Little Squirrel laughs heartily.  ;D ;D ;D

Little Squirrel knows that skunks, like old CC veterans, never really die.  ;)

And they sure as hell don't fade away.  :o

They, and the memory of a skunk's legacy, are eternal.  :o :o :o

Even now, the scent permeates the air.  :)

Maybe he's just trying to perform an "Agent Dog" trick so he can get adopted by his true love. Some people love skunks as pets.

(Leora should have gone for a squirrel immediately. We're less problematic.)

From what I saw Paul is still a conscript in the Russian military (They are conscripted from 12 to 16 months depending on how useful you are).  He is with the engineering Corp which is it's own branch.

He is most likely going to school atm and taking training/teaching other conscript till he is done.  Since the Eng is it's own branch he most likely doesn't work with planes, helicopters and what not. With the insignia tho he is most likely stationed at an Air Force base but not in the Air Forces it's self.

Conscript's don't get the best of anything from uniforms to compensation. They can be kind of considered like the territorial army or national guard.  But end the end they are there ti help fill spots and serve as backed up to base operations.  They do not see fighting unless there is an all out war like the world wars.

Obama is a cluster fuck for sure but he isn't that stupid.  As for Putin, He can pull shit like he is in Ukraine but he doesn't have the money or the clout to get the whole country into war.

Eastern russian forces would never go along with it.  They have no love for the US and the West, but they know it is wasteful and useless to go to war with out any real reason and wouldn't be fooled by Putin into going to war.

In the eastern part of Russia they are not loyal to Moscow they are loyal to Russia and the people.  So Putin can't get them to go long in much.  They will not send troops to Ukraine.

If there was ever an all out war you can make a safe bet that Putin wouldn't be in charge for long.  Many respected leaders are in the East and they would push for a real "Iron Man" to rule Russia, not Mr. Putie no shirt.

Unless you have additional information, how can you be certain he is wearing an air force insignia? The artillery insignia is almost identical so without a clearer image we can't be certain of anything.

Engineers in the Russian Army have a very distinctive insignia, again almost identical to the air force and artillery, but with two broad axes with long narrow handles  instead of propellers or canons, so definitely not what we have seen in the images.

I would be very surprised if the Russian military are different to any other military. Army wear army, navy wear navy and air force wear air force. I'm in the army and have been posted to a number of dual or tri-service bases, as well as an army contingent at an air force base. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing navy or air force insignia, even if I was allowed to.

If you have additional or different facts or information, I'd been keen to read it.

Hey, shit for brains, don't you dare talk about Russia and it's president when you don't know two shits about that country or the country of Ukraine. Sending 14 convoys of humanitarian help to Ukraine, or spending 16 hours straight in deliberations to try and find a peaceful solution to he nightmare in Ukraine--is that the "shit pulling" you're talking about? Putin has more brains than all your "eastern leaders" together, and he will use those brains to prevent any war from happening. But if god forbid the Russian people do find themselves threatened, they won't need Mr. Putin to ask them to go to war, they will get up and fight voluntarily. Just like they did during World War. And on the subject of money--Russia is the biggest country in the world. You can't even begin to fathom the resources it has.  Just take the Olympic Games and Formula 1; Obama will never be able to host two sporting events of such magnitude

1) I disagree with your statement "He doesn't have shit for brains." Please gracefully retract that, because this is a great subject for discussion and you are both vital to understanding the issues that lie before us.

2) Russia, as you said, is a culture that melds Asia and European values, and has done so ever since the Khan plowed through it. Their idea of warfare is indeed based upon loyalty to the Motherland, not the government. However, they have a long history of living under the rule of warlords and dictators. They accept and cooperate, easily accepting the futility. They have no Scottish blood; no trace of rebellion that are so characteristic of other cultures. Dictators are very good at controlling people. Putin, remember, was KBG in East Germany, which had 1 out of 5 people working as KGB informers, just to save their own skins. He does have major powers of control, and could easily destroy the lives of our Russian RLC friends should they get in his way.

3) Russia, as a concept, does not change or adapt easily to new conditions. Yes, they have many KFC's, Levi jeans, Rock & Roll, bread on the store shelves and finally -- thanks to the death of the Soviet Union -- a stock of  toilet paper. This didn't exit in Russia prior to what Nixon and Kissinger called Détente, a diplomatic trick that reminded Russia of one of its major historical problems: China. By recognizing Red China in the UN, the US took a major loss (we see it now everyday at our markets) but ultimately set the stage for Reagan to make Gorbachev accept the fact that his nation, and economic system, was bankrupt. It was a tactical loss that turned into a strategic victory. And that fucking Berlin wall came down, and the German people pulled it down. (So all of you European socialists shut the fuck up about supposed "American Imperialism." You piss-off little Squirrel!  >:( )

Give Gorbachev 10 points for the way he handled it: Stalin would have pushed the big red button and launched nuclear war without a second thought.

4) Putin has the power, but he's not insane like Stalin. As for Obama, he was raised and educated by what we call "The Ghost of the Third ComIntern."

5) Obama is a weak leader on domestic economics, foreign affairs, and the proper use of military. But he's the better Communist, while Putin is the grown-up, and the grown-up will win.

6) I'll shut up about Iran's acquistition of a nuclear bomb. I'm off-topic. My bad.

It's getting real in the Whole Food Parking Lot. Live another decade, you'll see whole a lot of it.

(This is a good discussion for Old Dudes forum, incidentally.)

Squirrel is right. This really isn't the right place for this argument. It's why you don't discuss politics or religion at a party. However, after reading some of these posts, I am prone to agreeing with StnCld316. "The way things are going in the world.  That next World War is not that far off."

Eve of destruction. Seems as true as ever.

Well, this escalated quickly from Paul's insignia to Obama.

Regardless of that, it;s kinda strange to me that a person with some relation to the military, even a conscript or a weekend warrior(?), chooses to display his life and part of his work activities (remember that big antenna stuff in the old appt?) to a 24/7/365 crowd. I mean, shouldn't they keep their lives as army people a little bit, um, more private? It's not only all these frequent blowjobs by his lovely gf, or nose picking, don't his superiors even know about him and RLC?

PS Now it's clear why we haven't seen him bringing friends home. Can you imagine a bunch of horny macho army guys oogling Leora?

I will not retract anything! I accept any opinions based on solid facts. But when people start talking about some kind of "shit pulling" by Putin, and then talk about Russia and it's history and culture without having any clue about it, that crosses the line in my book.

5) Obama is a weak leader on domestic economics, foreign affairs, and the proper use of military. But he's the better Communist, while Putin is the grown-up, and the grown-up will win.

Exactly my point. Obama thinks the warfare is the way for US to gain respect of other countries. But he will never implement that with Russia because he would be scared shitless. Instead he tries to scare Putin into submission with sanctions. But every time it ricochets and hits Obama in the ass.

While Putin has the brains and he will do everything he can to resolve any crisis situation peacefully and without harm to population

This missile troops.

So when they start shooting missiles towards the U.S. Paul might be the one pushing the buttons? Talk about irony. Payback for all the shit we talk about him I guess.

Paul, I'm soooo sorry I called you a nose-picking, scalp scratching, fingernail biting, inadequate lover kind of guy! Please don't push that button and blow us up!!! We aren't done lusting after your sexy girl!!!!! And besides, we have yet to find out if she's cheating on you or not. So if by chance you are reading this...at least give us the courtesy and time to find out if she has a stud on the side or not. Then you can blow our shit sky high!!!!! :P
