This was in contrast to the five or six apartments that were rather nice places to live, and thus watch. The best apartment in st. Petersburg appeared to be quality construction. This was the apartment where one night, one girl became quite sick, and an ambulance was called. The paramedics treated the girl on cam, before transporting her, IIRC. That was a slice of real life!! The majority of the Russian apartments were substandard, by Western standards. And thus depressing to watch, IMO. One of Dick and Jane's little friends wore the same winter coat for months on end. Probably the only one she had. Little wonder that the girls on vacation who were returning to Russia or Ukraine used much of their earnings to buy clothes for themselves. These days, if a girl arrives at a RLC GOV apartment without her iPhone (<sometimes two) and her MacBook, you have to wonder about her economic origins.
