Sydney had left a few minutes earlier.

Someone posted earlier that Sydney seemed to disappear most mornings.  Today, looking at the time stamps, Sydney was gone for about eight hours.  I now believe that she has a regular job in Budva. If so, it is probably seasonal. She is said to be Russian;  It is possible she has never been to Spain.  Sky apparently has lived in Spain, where she met Rachel and perhaps other participants.  This may be a relationship of convenience.  Sydney needed a partner if she was to live in an RLC apartment.

Sky has been a friend of Rachel for about 20 years.

RLC's bio of Rachel says that she speaks Russian.  I take that to mean she was born in Russia, and thus her childhood was in Russia

Possible, I am not denying that.

Do Russians and Ukrainians use the same language?

AI Overview
No, Russian and Ukrainian are two distinct, separate languages.

Language Relationship
  • Family: Both are East Slavic languages and share a common historical root, much like Spanish and Portuguese or English and Dutch.
  • Mutual Intelligibility:
  • They share roughly 62% of their vocabulary. While they have many similarities, they are not fully mutually intelligible without prior exposure or study. Ukrainians often understand Russian better than Russians understand Ukrainian, largely due to historical bilingualism in Ukraine.

With the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991, Ukraine became independent.  In 1996, Ukrainian became the official state language.  In 2014, Russia seized Crimea, and after that, the teaching of Russian as a language in Ukrainian schools basically ended.

Rachel's bio on Xlife states that the language she speaks is Russian.  That is the only language listed.

In the last official Ukrainian census conducted in 2001, 20.7% (about 508,500 people) of the residents in Odessa Oblast identified as ethnically Russian. Meanwhile, about 41.9% of the region's population reported Russian as their native language.

Oblast is the Russian term for administrative district.  2001 was 25 years ago.

In any event, if Rachel has known Sky since childhood, they are both from Odessa oblast.  IIRC, Lia and Mia were from Odessa.

And Sidney is from Russia.
