Record number of infections in the Czech Republic
The Czech Republic has recorded a record number of new corona virus infections for the second day in a row. On Thursday, the health ministry in Prague reported 16,939 additional cases in 24 hours.
In the country of 10.7 million inhabitants, 718,661 infections have already been reported since the start of the corona pandemic. A total of 11,580 people died from COVID-19.
In the intensive care units of Czech hospitals, less than a quarter of the beds are now available for new patients. The health ministry has therefore ordered a general admission stop for postponable procedures and treatments.
