    It certainly isn't like that everywhere, as you said. Only in very few places, even... Did I mention I want your job?... 😉 Anyway, it's kind of weird to me to realise that the same girls who are acting so "body free" and uninhibited over there might probably, and strangely, be quite hesitant nowadays to even take just their tops off at the beach or an inland lake, let alone go naked?... Unless they go to some secret paradise place that no one knows about for tanning, relaxing & swimming?... Do you know, or heard them talk about, how they behave on the beach or at inland lakes?... I'm also starting to wonder if some of them came to 'my' lake (afterwards?) as Dutch (exchange) art students... Though these are usually a bit older: 19-21 or so, I estimate. But possible after graduating from your place. I see some different female Dutch exchange art students at the lake every year around June (art school students finish earlier in the school year than other students who still have exams then, but they don't go back home yet because they're still waiting for their 'jury' in late June).

    Too bad they only get less shy after their 20s... but better than staying prudish forever i guess... I wonder if there is some new unspoken & unwritten social norm at the moment in Western Europe that says it's fine to go topless after you turn 30/35, but not before?... As if saying: "before that age, you're 'too sexy'! Once past your prime, it's fine!", or something like that?... 🤔

    That explains it all i'm afraid: they're possibly Gen X women (45yo or older), & still used to the topless Dutch beach culture that prevailed in their youth?... How old do they seem to you?...

    Really?... I wouldn't have thought... The Scandinavian girls I met were really not prudes... I particularly remember some Norwegian ones... OK, they were on holiday (or an exchange student at my dorm 34 years ago... Ah, memories...) & far from home, but so were girls from other countries who acted more reserved... Are you from Norway, Sweden, or Finland, if I may ask? (I think we can exclude Denmark?...)

    Now, as most Dutch beaches seemingly got "prudified" as well if what you say is correct (& correlates with my experience too), all that is left to do is find out which Dutch beach it is that @Xarvaz mentioned... 😉 Probably a beach not too far from an art school? Which possibly plays a role as well: I noticed at 'my' lake that female art school students (especially the exchange Dutch ones!) have a lot less qualms about going topless than others... Spanish tourist girls or exchange students too, by the way, but that's another matter. @Xarvaz are the topless girls that you see at 'your' beach from the art school? Or not? Or both?...

    Not as far as I saw until now. Usually they just stare (the men & boys that is). Or don't even do that when they're with their mother/wife/children. It's different with groups of men or when they're alone (so muslim wives/mothers do apparently have some influence on their husband's/son's behavior despite being regarded "subservient"! 😉). Although i heard/read about muslim women reprimanding topless French women too (during the French burkini ban era i think, like "if i can't neither can you"...). Can't fault these muslim guys too much as I admit doing the same, just like lots of men, but at least I (& most guys who grew up with topless beaches) try to watch subtly, because staring too obviously makes the girls cover up or leave in no time, like deer running from a clumsy nature documentary cameraman. The problem is most of them never learned to watch in a subtle way (how many times i thought: "at least put on sunglasses ffs!"), but keep gawking wide-eyed & almost drooling or with a lecherous grin, which is an almost assured way of making the girls cover up or leave. But of course, the countless instances where they behave normally don't tend to stick in the memory as good as the instances where some others don't. And you have some 'white' dirty old men too acting the same way, but they're usually old & alone, so most girls care a bit less. But sometimes you hear about it (especially some years ago in the era where muslim women were banned from wearing burkinis at French beaches if i remember well, as some form of intercultural "payback" - I say just let everyone wear what they want at any beach, whether it's a burkini or nothing at all ffs...), and groups of pubescent/adolescent muslim boys have been known to harass topless girls/women (but also those in a swimsuit/bikini if no topless ones are around). I think it's a rather rare occurance, but sucks when it happens, and might very well dissuade others from going topless when they hear about this, becoming some kind of self-fulfilling prophecy, because when topless becomes more rare, some people are going to react weirder when it does happen, which then results in fewer girls deciding to go topless, and so on... 😕 Edit: but what @Tabman said in the post above mine is just as true, as well. It's all very much culturally "in fluxus", so to speak. Some muslim girls/women are wearing bikinis after all, rather "tame" for us perhaps, but very revealing for their culture... Let's hope they top it up a notch & go topless soon! 🙂

    Edit: according to Xarvaz (parts of?) The Netherlands, too. Is that true in other people's experience as well? @luvdoggy1111 for example? Asking for a friend 😁, as the Netherlands' beaches are mostly not too far from Belgium...

    I'm striving for the best of both worlds: the small bottoms that are fashionable now combined with topless breasts that were fashionable some decades ago! 😁 😎 Or simply more young women & girls going naked & perhaps staking out new nude beaches. 🙂

    Yes, even in Belgium (where people are more likely to be naked in spas than on the beach: something to do with everyone being naked there anyway, and no phones/cameras policy - though there are textile spas too but i don't go to those). Don't the Scandinavians have those too, as sauna culture originated there? Or perhaps there are more saunas within homes in Scandinavia, making public spa complexes superfluous?...

    Really? There was always more topless in the Netherlands than in Belgium, even during the "topless boom" of the late 20th century (perhaps because it has much more coastline than Belgium, hence more quiet/empty spots?), but i heard & read about Dutch people complaining that it diminished or sometimes disappeared there too the last 20/25 years... So, is topless back in the Netherlands? Or was it never really gone?... And how do American tourists & muslim immigrants react to it? Because according to corboblanc the latter now impose their mores on at least the major coastal city beaches in France, but The Netherlands has a big muslim population too, so how does that work out?... And is it just the older generation that was used to being topless in the Netherlands that does it? Or also the younger generation? Younger than 30, students etc?... Asking for a friend. 😁 Edit: I was on the beach in Zeeland (southwestern Netherlands) two or three years ago, and only saw topless women (rarely under 30yo) on the nude beach (usually completely naked there), but none or almost none on the textile beach, where topless used to be quite prevalent decades before... Or was I just unlucky that day?...

    Yes, but they cracked down on that years ago i believe. And the women in the videos were mostly not my type (too old). I was there I think about 2003 and already then there was police on horseback on the beach specifically to prevent any hanky panky.

    That's Cap d'Agde i think. But I'm afraid the thing i said about mummified old ladies (& geezers) applies also there... 😕 But if things have changed in the last decade or so: please someone in the know inform us!

    Dating from which year?... Also, Cap d'Agde is/was a special case even for France (and unfortunately as far away in the south of France as can be to where i live: to the north of it). Videos/camera phones might also be one of the reasons you see less topless/nude girls on beaches nowadays. Though the decline started before the rise of the smartphone after 2010, so it can't be the only reason. Some also blame increasing tourism (Americans etc) and migration (muslims mostly) from regions with a more prude morality causing less revealing beach mores (although the bikini bottoms got much smaller shortly after the breasts getting covered up again, so you could say the total amount of textile has stayed the same... 😉). But there are also less topless girls around beaches where there are no American tourists nor muslim migrants near (and there were already American tourists and muslim migrants in the 70s/80s/90s when topless was omnipresent), so that can't be the only reason either... Perhaps it's a combination of factors?... Let's just hope it changes to a more carefree topless trend again soon! Though the bottoms can keep their current size as far as i'm concerned! 😁

    Perhaps Quebec/Montreal is better in this regard, but i have no idea. As for France: French beaches used to be fantastic with topless girls everywhere until about 20/25 years ago. Nowadays, it's mostly only mummified old ladies anymore who are still topless... But it's been ages since I've been on a French beach (for the reason i mentioned 😁), so perhaps things changed again in the meantime?... Can our French CC friends elaborate, perhaps?... @thereala78 @isidore57 and perhaps other French members i can't think of right now?...

    It's like once little kids (boys) don't get breastfed anymore, they're not allowed to see a source of their food again until they turn 18! 😄 Got to make the weening off final! I remember a scene at the beach when topless was more prevalent. A little boy of about 2 years old wanted to have some breast milk too when his mom was breastfeeding his baby sister. Mom sent him off as he was "too big to drink from mommy now", so he wandered right over to a nearby group of topless 17-18 year old girls, focused on the prettiest girl with the biggest & firmest boobs, and went straight for the nipple! It was a hilarious but also endearing scene, and something you can obviously get away with if you're two! 😛 The girl didn't have any milk though, and even nicely explained this to him. 🥛

And do you have the weather for it more than two weeks per year?... 😉 You'll all need to shake off the more prudish USA influence! 😁 Perhaps now is the right time now that relations got worse anyway!... But to be fair, the English speaking world as a whole was always a bit more prude than (most of) Europe. Except for British girls when they get drunk. But only when they get drunk... Practically, more chance to see a British girl flashing her boobs in a bar than seeing the same girl topless at the beach...

    I mostly meant Denmark, yes. As it's the closest Scandinavian country to where i live. I recognize the "topless on holiday where no one knows me, but not back home" phenomenon too! 😉 It might be universal in Europe... But for some, it suffices to be 50km or so away from their place, while others need to be at least an airplane flight away to do it. But I remember meeting/seeing mainly Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, German & Spanish girls holidaying in Spain/Portugal who had no issues with being topless at all (not even just swimming, but also playing sports etc). While girls from other countries tended to be a bit more shy, even if they were actually topless, but just lying on their towel... There were exceptions both ways, but this was the general trend i noticed.
