It's tough having something like this to deal with.  Experienced something similar many years ago.  Even if you have good Insurance cover, and they pay out promptly, there's always something you miss claiming for, so it hurts the pocket as well.  It's the sheer hard work of clean-up that takes the time and effort.  There is often stuff lost/damaged that is utterly irreplaceable.  It puts an enormous strain on your life, and relationships with others around you.  Hopefully there are people near enough to him to help, both physically and emotionally.  Good Luck.  Be positive.
