Is there one Islamic country that is prosperous AND civilised?

Jordan's pretty civilised and, based mostly on tourism, fairly prosperous despite having no oil. Somewhat intolerant of idiots like the one we finally managed to depoirt. They've been quietly and generously taking in Syrian refugees at the rate of 3,000 a day (!) for eighteen months, and they're surrounded by some pretty unpleasant neighbours. Other places would have started a war over Israel's behaviour towards them - cutting off their water supply by diverting the river Jordan - but they're taking the other way by investing in desalination plants on the Red Sea.

Good for Jordan. Maybe there is hope for mankind after all.

I know religion is a hot topic to discuss but its influence over the whole world, for good or bad, is so overwhelming that we cannot ignore it. Radical religious views are growing stronger which means the silent majority have to start speaking up.

Good discussions on CamCaps is great. People from different countries and different cultures all discussing so many subjects. All while waiting to see if Paul can ever satisfy Leora as he struggles to find the whereabouts of her clitoris!!!!

I know this may start yet another war but I would like to remind people of a couple of historical facts, having recently re-read Ariel Sharon's autobiography, this quote is fairly fresh in my mind:  "People generally regard June 5 1967 as the day the Six Day war began. That is the official date. But, in reality, it started two-and-a-half years earlier, on the day Israel decided to act against the diversion of the Jordan. While the border disputes between Syria and ourselves were of great significance, the matter of water diversion was a stark issue of life and death."

Not from the autobiography, but it was actually Jordan, with the support of Syria, that attempted to divert the Jordan River and limit the flow to Israel.

Jordan is considered one of the most advanced countries in the region and is a significant ally of the United States and Great Britain, receiving a significant amount of military support from both countries.

Say whut? ???

Sorry been away for a while.  Jesse V. was/is suing Tanya Kyle after Chris Kyle died because Chris told a story about Jesse.  A little background.  Chris Kyle was a Navy Seal who was killed in Texas last year.  He has the most kills of any other sniper. He is known to Iraqis as the Devil of Ramadi.  To make this short Jesse was in a bar and was talking shit about the military and Chris knocked him out cold.  Jesse said when Chris came out and said it was him it was defamation of character and sued Chris.  Well Chris was shot and Jesse turned the suit on Tanya.  Chris wrote about it in his autobiography American Sniper.  it is a really  good read.

So moral of the story Jesse is a piece of shit

Not sure why, but this is another issue I've been reading about recently. Ventura came up as a bit of a case study when discussing people (Aussies) claiming to be Vietnam vets that aren't. These are two references that I haven't checked but the sources are named:

Captain Larry Bailey states:

JESSE VENTURA SEAL OR NOT?

Jesse Ventura went through UDT/SEAL Class 58 in 1970 and was assigned to UDT-12, where he spent three years (including three deployments fo Subic Bay, Philippines). As a UDT frogman, he operated in Viet Nam waters and earned the US Viet Nam Service Ribbon. He undoubtedly, like so may UDT men of that era, went ashore in Viet Nam for short periods of time. After he was released from active duty in 1973, he joined Reserve SEAL Team ONE. The point here is that all graduates of BUD/S are referred to within the Naval Special Warfare community as SEALs. They received the same training, whether they went to SEAL Teams or Underwater Demolition Teams. The case made by Commander Salisbury on Fox News Channel recently is without merit; Jesse Ventura is a SEAL by any definition.

Larry Bailey, Captain, USN (Ret.)

R.D. and Pam Russell, Co-Directors of Navel Special Warfare Archives state:

The official view point of the Archives is that Jesse was a SEAL. He completed BUD/S and the SEAL course in the desert. The west coast used UDT as a man power pool so they could pull people at any time without there being a training delay.

As for suing Tanya Kyle, I thought he was suing the publisher of Chris' book and the estate, that Tanya is executor of, not her personally. Ventura reckons the claims made by Kyle never happened.

To me they are both heroes, pity there has to be this shit going on.

According to local media, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, has surged to the top of the potential GOP presidential field. This seems to be backed up by foreign media (foreign to Australia). Interesting to note that he has stated if he were to become President, or Commander-in-Chief, he would probably consider putting ground troops into Syria. I’m assuming that he would expect support from so called coalition of the willing, though I’m not sure how many would still be that willing.

As much as the general public may not support this move, many senior military leaders that understand tactical war fighting, as against politicians who generally have no idea (and their advisers even less) agree with this strategy. Unlike the Taliban, ISIS is a conventional army, well-funded, well equipped with tanks and heavy armour, using conventional tactics. It’s the type of force that can’t be beaten purely from the air, but can be beaten by conventional ground forces. I have to assume that Gov Walker has some military knowledge, better advisers or got lucky.

I don’t know if this fits the Republican platform, but promoting it seems to have improved Gov Walker’s numbers.

Intriguing conversation! Personally I think the only thing the US needs to fear is the ignorance of our younger generation. If they don't understand basic history, politics, and economics, They will keep voting for socialists. Like the president now in office.

I do not fear invasion from the outside or from within. The reason for this is our 2nd amendment!

In Wisconsin alone there were over 600,000 hunters this season! That's more men under arms than in Iran. Or more than France and Germany combined! Wisconsin's hunters alone if organized would be the 8th largest army in the world. That's only Wisconsin, and only the hunters. There are many many more citizens that own guns but do not hunt (self included)

According to the Geneva-based Small Arms Survey. The U.S. has the best-armed civilian population in the world, with an estimated 270 million total guns. That’s an average of 89 firearms for every 100 residents — far ahead of Yemen, which comes in second with about 55 firearms for every 100 people, or Switzerland, which is third with 46 guns for every 100 people.

If you live in a country that does not allow you to own a firearm, you are not free. You are subject to being taken over by radicals, ideological or religious!  Do not become complacent, fight for your human right to protect yourselves.

In the US, as long as we have the 2nd amendment, we are and forever will be free citizens. We will protect ourselves from invaders, foreign and domestic!
