They should have taken this opportunity to save lots of money from their RLC income and from not having to pay rent.

Expand That and dumping RLC when it was likely her primary income, assuming she had a part time secondary job at night. She really shot herself in the foot. Maybe shouldn't have loaned money to a man she didn't love and ended up dumping hard. She's not a tourism agent yet, and the loss of RLC means only a small part time job (theoretically) won't pay the bills.
