There is a difference between having respect for someone, that has to be earned, I will give you that, but showing respect to another person is a matter of courtesy. Following your train of thought suggests that you show disrespect to everyone until they earn your respect. That's just plain rude and you will find that very few are then willing to earn your respect. 3
