I must admit I haven't been watching this apartment too closely lately.  However, seeing Amy & Jane visiting them yesterday tells me that perhaps there is more than meets the eye here...?  Maybe they're struggling coming out of the shell so to speak? (I know, one could argue why are they here then...)
