I agree.  I have heard N&K refer to them as a parrots.  BTW, both parakeets and cockatiels are types of parrots.  They typically cost about USD150 in the States.

The Cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus) is a species of Australian bird. It is the only species of the genus Nymphicus, (still Nymphs, this house is filled with Nymphs).
Couples, like lovebirds, remain united all their lives (this is a good example to follow).
