Trust me the US economy suffered way less than the rest of the world but I predicted that at the time. The US is by far the most powerful economy in the world - if it wasn't for Europe's political collective idiocy then we would be an equal player instead of being behind China in terms of power - so just protected itself while the rest of us got fucked, particularly (in Europe) Greece, Spain, Ireland (who the UK bailed out with no thanks) and Portugal maybe Italy as well as well as many other weaker economies around the world. The bigger the economy you have the easier it is to protect yourself. In the UK while unemployment never got hit apart from during the initial couple of years, production has been stagnant or backwards and wages have gone nowhere and like I said Northern Europe is way better off than the South or the East. Obama did nothing as the Western World's Leader. He allowed the status quo to remain for fear of upsetting anyone. He never sorted out North Korea. US diplomats said from day one of the Trump presidency that his most urgent and difficult problem was NK. Trump did do something by threatening the little Hitler with annihilation. NK blinked first and now there is a real prospect of progress to peace. The Iran situation is similar. Sweet Obama trusted Iran because his nature is to do nothing too difficult and destroy his image as a peace loving cool dude. Obamacare will go bust so Trump can just simply do nothing and wait for another Obama cool dude policy to fail. Rather than do so he is trying to find a solution. The political elite hate Trump because he is not one of them. They hold a position that Islam cannot be challenged, that all dictators must be coaxed into dialogue rather than coerced, that right wing anything is wrong, that all white men are racist misogynists until proven otherwise, that governments should always spend more than they have, that tax is a weapon of punishment rather than simply a way of raising money, that 'country' is irrelevant and therefore borders need not exist, that free and open elections are great unless it gives the wrong result which then demands the vote be reversed or held again until the right result is achieved. They pretend that they are all socialists working for the good of everyone but then fail to deliver anything that improves the lives of working people. Tony Blair in the UK is the best example of this modern day socialism - promise the world whilst completely ignoring the plebs and simply reinforce his right to lead because of course he is right and the plebs can't be trusted with something as simple as making up their own minds on anything because they are too dumb to know the right answer. Macron in France is a neo- conservative pretending to be a socialist. Merkel is Mrs Doubtfire Obama. Let's be nice to everyone and those ever so gentle dictators might one day turn into caring democratic socialists. Oh and in the case of Germany let's remain a pacifist nation who doesn't spend even the agreed 2% of GDP on it's own defence, refuses to spend money preferring instead to build a trade surplus that if allowed to continue to grow threatens the economic stability of the whole world. Whilst the western political elite view the world as they do Putin becomes an untouchable Tsar and in China Xi Jinping becomes a lifelong dictator rather than the head of a one party state! Erdogan in Turkey uses a failed coup (or pretend uprising) to turn a secular country into a Islamic state with growing intolerance to any other religion. Africa remains a continent of incompetent tin pot dictators who care little for their people and use 'investment' money provided by the West to line their own pockets. India holds on to democracy but maintains a caste system of racism that shames the world as much as the apartheid of old South Africa. So the political establishment hate outsiders who might disturb their privileged and ever growing wealthy lifestyles whilst mismanaging their own countries and allowing dictatorship politics to grow stronger at the expense of democracy and the prosperity of much of the world. A bit like Billy Joel said - 'We didn't start the fire' but maybe Trump will put the fire out - Then again he might blow the whole thing into oblivion!!!! We shouldn't support Iran either but if anything the Saudis whose support started the war in Syria as they Qatar and UAE funded the formation of IS in Iraq while backing "moderate" (the biggest fucking joke term in history) groups in Syria. And while it is true that once IS started losing the groups they funded largely turned on their former allies and the Saudis denounced Qatar (although that was more to do with Israel) it doesn't stop there promotion of their abhorrent doctrine elsewhere in the world.
