I used to live in Ft. Lauderdale. The scum far outnumber the police there. If and when you need a cop if just for a traffic accident it can take them a half hour to get there. Some loser is trying to get into your house through a window or break the lock on the door and you call 911, it could take them that half hour to respond because they are tied up with some crackhead beating on his girlfriend. I call them and tell them to bring the Medical Examiner with them. You do what you need to do and I'll do what I need to do to protect myself. I'm too old for hand to hand combat anymore. I don't go out and look for trouble at all, there is enough out there already looking for an easy target.

Say you are in a restaurant with your family enjoying an evening meal. Some scumbag that got fired the day before from that restaurant because he is a dirtbag, comes in at 6pm with a weapon intent on shooting anything that moves, what do you do? Lay down and put up your hands or do you go with your training, tell your wife or husband quietly to get under the table and draw your own weapon and take the dirtbag out? YOU carrying a weapon may have just saved countless people. YOU are not there to harm the patronage, but to protect them. Call it what you want. I watch the front door at all times and keep my back to a solid wall. If I can't, then I wait until I can. Fortunately, I don't live in a sewer like I used to. I don't have to be AS vigilant, but I never let my guard down. I live in an area where in any given place, at least 30% of the people are carrying a weapon and more than that are all former Military. You don't have to display it, we know who we are just by the way we are always on guard. It's like an American Express card. You never leave home without it. In my 60+ years on this planet, I have never had to drawn down on anyone and hope I never have to. I hold a Marksman classification and I hit what I aim at. Maybe not dead center, but the load that I use will put you in a casket.

I love it when it's hot, humid, the tourists are gone and I can drive a 20 minute drive in 20 minutes instead of 40 minutes.
