Not sad at all unless you are the country trying to rule everything like Germany obviously wants to be. What country with any sense wants to lose its autonomy and be ruled over by a bunch of unelected bureaucrats? As far as a borderless Europe well that's a policy that will end in disaster as many have found out so far with being flooded with immigrants. Borders are necessary to keep any sense of balance, without them you are inviting disaster and crime. The problem with the EU is that their way is only ever considered the right and only way and fail to listen to reason. You enjoy your borderless europe Jabs and central bureaucracy whilst the UK will be free to make it's own decisions. Yes some may not work out but most will but more important is WE will have made them and not being dictated to by the likes of Barnier or Leyen. Close cooperation is already being threatened by many of the country's who don't agree with the centralist policy and disagreeing with being dictated to. The well off country's have already almost destroyed or ruined many of the weaker ones for their own financial benefit which is sad and wrong and still continue to do so. So enjoy your domination for as long as it lasts.

The freedom that you describe here in such detail is an illusion. GB will have to continue to enter into trade agreements in the future. Considering the volume of trade, the EU will be the most important partner here and in the negotiations GB will certainly not be able to negotiate on an equal footing. There is a clear framework provided by existing treaties and cannot simply be neglected.

The negotiations with the USA will certainly not be easy either. Trump has no friends and America first will certainly not exempt GB. Just how much external powers are interested in dividing Europe (not just Trump) shows how important and useful it would have been to stay together. For Europe (especially GB) the Brexit is a defeat, because alone we are weaker.

The USA showed to be no longer a reliable partner under Trump. So might be better to move towards China or the BRICs states.

You can't just ignore the USA. They are economically and militarily just too strong and important.

That is what disappoints me most about Brexit. Europe is weakening as a result and losing negotiating power. The game is no longer between countries as small as GB, France or Germany. Whoever wants to negotiate with the USA or China at eye level needs size. GB alone will be ridiculously unimportant but at the same time not small enough to be really generous.

It's true. Even when I think the USA already lost this role to China.

It's bad for the UK and for the EU. There will be no winners in the end.

Maybe so but at least it will be our choice and not having to pay billions for the privilege of this so called free trade as free it sure wasn't.

Yes, a choice between worse than before and much worse than before. 😉

I think also the story about the money is a misinterpretation. First of all a good part of the money flows back directly. Some of it also indirectly through e.g. Joint european research projects and so on.

Then there is the question of the economic loss. Trade will become more difficult (or even much more difficult) and especially areas such as the banking sector will have to reduce a lot. Larger European companies, such as Airbus, could leave the UK in the medium or long term.

Ultimately, the Brexit will be a loss for all in the EU and UK. The winners will be the USA, China, etc.

Don't agree but only time will tell. At least we will succeed or fail by our own efforts and not be dominated by others who only have their own view of the future and power. Oh yes, we pay them £15 billion a year or so for FREE trade lol and are then are expected to be grateful for being allowed some back of our own money for our own use lol. It's just a bloody joke all sacrificed on the altar of power for some over all country's.

At present out of the 28 country's in the EU only 10 contribute whilst 18 sponge off those 10. The UK being the 2nd highest contributor in 2017 latest figures show. What a great club eh 😁. And they still want more to join to continue the sponging.

Initially our people joined what we thought was a Common Market having been lied to from the start. Well Ms Barnier up yours as from Jan 31st.

We don't need an escape now we are leaving on January 31st at 11pm despite all the attempts by the EU masters hurling all the shit at us and they are still threatening us with their vile threats. And who is it coming from? Their new german leader!!!!. You couldn't make it up could you. Now they can get on with their European vision of domination always envisaged by Walter Heinstein. Our politicians always refer to them as our friends and partners. Well with friends like those who the hell needs enemies eh.
