The problem is that you are reading and believing the newspapers. When that report first came out I posted a link on this forum that showed the actual interview. He said no such thing. He basically just said that according to the models it looks like 100k-200k people might die but that is just the model and a model is only as good as the data available so he has no confidence in the numbers and that he hopes it will be a lot less deaths. Sounds like a great expert to me. The newspapers told you that 240k number by twisting his words. If you really want the news you have to start listening to these people talk first hand if you really want to know what they think and not look at newspapers. Newspapers are for entertainment not news. They make their money from getting your attention, not from telling you true information.

I listened to him. If Dr. Fauci has no confidence in the models, why the fuck does he keep citing them?  The models were a cause of much panic in this country, and Dr.Fauci by citing those bogus models helped to create that panic. The model numbers have been so far off that they were worthless.

The models weren't a cause of panic, the newspapers interpretation of the models is what caused panic, which is exactly what they aim to do. If you've watched him or anybody else speak about the models they all explain that the models are only as good as the data available. I have heard Dr. Fauci say this a million times, pretty much every single time he is asked or is speaking about the models. Every single time. Problem is interviewers keep repeatedly asking him the question of "how many will die" over and over again and will not take 'I don't know" as an acceptable answer so he appeases them by reading out the data in the model (which anybody above the age of 10 can do if they can read a graph) and they then take that mini soundbite and write junk articles with headlines such as "Dr. Fauci says 200,00 will die 😱". They completely leave out the part where he says I don't actually know because I'm not psychic and models are only as reliable as the data. If newspapers were not in it for all the wrong reasons then that would have been the message they would have lead with but how interesting would that be to people?

The models although not accurate are very helpful to the people working to help solve the crisis. Those experts know they cannot rely on them 100% and to proceed with caution. The models aren't made for the general public and they're useless to the average laymen because most people don't know how to properly interpret them. But that won't stop the newspapers from running with the most dramatic parts of it.

Fauci has served under 5 presidents, so he has been a Washington DC bureaucrat for many years. Therefore, he knew what the news media would do with those numbers. He should have never even used the models when he saw the numbers were so unrealistic. He is the one who gave prominence to the models by featuring them in the daily press conference.

Again, news reporters amaze me with their ignorance and stupidity. They seem completely surprised and amazed that there are now 16 million people unemployed in the U.S. As if they can make no connection between the unemployment figures and the fact that we have shutdown our economy because of the coronavirus pandemic. Duh? :angry:

Actually Dr. Birx is the modeler not Dr. Fauci, he has nothing to do with the models. He just reads them for those that force him to read it for them. The media will twist anything he says or does, you want him to just shut up and say nothing at all? Why should he silence himself because other people are not bright enough to understand that the media is not thier friend? Instead he is very hesitant when answering a question that wants him to come to a conclusion on things and will always say not to take his word for it because he is no psychic only a scientist guessing. If people choose to have selective hearing or are blindly led by the media that is not his fault, at least he tried to warn people. He even says "I don't want to give an answer because it will be used as a soundbite" multiple times. If you listen to him speak you will understand that he spends a lot of time trying to get the newspapers not to put words in his mouth, but they do anyway because they're sharks.

Also the numbers are not unrealistic they are a rough sketch so experts can start getting a rough picture of what's going on. They share them in the name of transparency with full disclosure that they are only as accurate as the data they have available. Please look at the link @Alladino has provided, very good example of how hesitant he is to give any answer.

They're not surprised lol. You assume they're stupid but they're 5 steps ahead of you. It's almost time to get America open for business and time to get Americans worried about the economy and a possible recession. The fear of jobloss and unemployment needs to be more on the forefront of peoples' minds than the fear of the virus 😉

When I first saw Dr. Fauci I was impressed with him, but the more I see of him the less impressed I am.  To me he's beginning to look like just another bureaucrat who is completely out of touch with the  real world outside of Washington DC.

They want voters to not connect the virus to unemployment, so that when the pandemic passes they can blame Trump's economic policies for the unemployment numbers and the recession. They and the Democrats are just hoping the American people are too stupid to know that the pandemic caused the recession.

As these girls earn money there they need a working visa and so are maybe allowed to come in...

I don't think Escorting would get anyone in.  They're not an essential service.

Well, that is different with Trump. The first time I saw him, I thought he is an idiot. Today, I still think the same. 🤣

Anyway, I have no idea what you have to criticize about Dr. Fauci. He proceeds systematically and is currently a very needed source of reliable information. Of course he can't do magic, but unlike Trump he never claimed to be able to do so.
