Exactly don't panic. You are right. It was a pandemic before. What he means is epidemic.

Oh so you asked him have you what he really meant? Think you will find his opinion of a pandemic is correct but then it's only words eh

Are schools actually closed? Because I read that in the news but then multiple Italians were commenting on the article saying it is a lie and most schools are open.

I don't understand how China has managed to contain this mainly within Wuhan and one other city. Other big cities within China like Beijing don't seem to be affected much especially compared to other countries. The rest of the world has had a whole month+ to prepare but they're only now starting to wake up to the seriousness of it all. Why are we not all looking to China to help figure out how to contain this virus? And how is the virus doing in China now because a lot of the coronavirus news I'm coming across is all about the U.S. and Europe.

China have a very rigid military presence I suspect and most probably stopped most people movement from Wuhan to other area's as they can be a very strict regime. I have read that this virus was a deliberately manufactured laboratory thing which accidentally escaped so what the hell they were planning to do with it god knows.

A pandemic (from Greek πᾶν pan "all" and δῆμος demos "people") is an epidemic of disease that has spread across a large region; for instance multiple continents, or worldwide. A widespread endemic disease that is stable in terms of how many people are getting sick from it is not a pandemic. -Wikipedia

If a person catches the coronavirus in China and travels back to their home country, they do not count toward the tally that ultimately decides a pandemic declaration—and neither does anyone they infect.

But public health authorities are stopping just short of officially labeling this emergency as a pandemic: In her remarks, Messonnier (from the CDC) noted that the world is moving closer to meeting the criteria for a pandemic. Meanwhile, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also said this week that we’re on the precipice of a pandemic.

These are the most current stats for March 5th for the 11 (of 89 total)
countries and one cruise ship hardest hit by covid-19. There are a total
of 98,421 cases and 3,385 deaths affecting nearly half the countries of
the world. Thankfully, 55,630 people have recovered.
